United’s draw with Stoke

The invincibility is broken. Manchester Unites, the team that got the first place after an awesome start in Premier League, managed to win everything until this leg when they stumbled for the first time in the game against Stoke.

Alex Ferguson has his first problems this season because a problem attracts another one. After the draw with Stoke that broken their perfect run so far, winning the Super Cup and with 5 victories in the first 5 legs, they lost their top scorer, Wayne Rooney who injured himself before the last game.

Ferguson revealed after the Stoke game: “Rooney’s thigh injury is not a serious one, but kept him away from this game. I think it will take several weeks until he will be able to come back.”

Beside the loss of Rooney who managed to score 9 goals in the first 5 legs, another problem for Manchester United is the Serbian defender, Nemanja Vidic. He was injured in the very first stage and the predictions said that he will return in 6 weeks. Unfortunately, his problems aren’t solved yet and he is still far from coming back. United’s next game is in Champions League against FC Basel.

Hargreaves blames Ferguson

It’s very well known that performance comes with costs. But this time, it might be too much. A man seen by everybody acting like a pro, Alex Ferguson, is involved in a scandal regarding a former Manchester United player.

Owen Hargreaves, the current player of Manchester City, speaks in very harsh terms about the time spent at Old Trafford. The 30-year-old midfielder is relieved that he dropped out of the “lack of professionalism staff led by Alex Ferguson.”

“During the years spent at Old Trafford, I felt like a guinea pig. They made me look like a player of “glass” because of mismanaged treatment. I have for a long time now a chronic knee problem, but those from United managed to do ot worse than it was.”

Owen Hargreaves moved to Manchester City this summer and quickly integrated in the group led by Mancini. Wednesday the midfielder scored the first goal in the match against Birmingham, in the Carling Cup, were City won by 2-0.

Hargreaves continued: “Ferguson wasn’t interested of my recovery period after an injury, introducing me in a game last season, although I wasn’t fit to play. He forced me and he just obtained a aggravation of my injury”.

Battle between United’s goalkeepers

Money is not everything. Anders Lindegaard has told Sir Alex Ferguson he is ready to give him a real selection headache over who is first-choice goalkeeper at Manchester United.

Following Edwin van der Sar’s retirement, Ferguson has installed 20 million pounds signing David de Gea as his No.1 . However, the Spaniard has not always convinced, while Lindegaard’s for in his first start of the season against Benfica on Wednesday suggested United have genuine competition for the goalkeeper position.

But de Gea remains the first pick for Ferguson on Sunday against Chelsea. Lindegaard, though respectful of that decision, has made it clear he is not happy to settle for the role of understudy:

“I don’t feel I will always be the second choice. I’m never going to complain about competition. That is how it should be. There is room for only one goalkeeper. I accept the manager’s choice every time. ”

The Dane continued: “I am not here just to get my money. I want to be respected as a great football player. If you expect me to say I am happy to be No. 2, that is not how it is. I want to be number one.”

Like in any sport, a little competition won’t do any harm. It could only be a motivational factor for the two players to play every time at their max.

Manchester is on the right track

The fresh new season comes with good news for the champions from last season, Manchester United, defeating by a 3-0 score on Tottenham in the last game of the second round of Premier League, obtaining points equal to their rivals City and Wolves.

After the last round when they easily passed over West Bromwich Albion with 2-1, Anderson ,Rooney and Welbeck  have resolved the fate of the meeting with Tottenham Hotspur, a team at the first game this season because of the postponement of the first stage due to protests in England.

Teams:

M. United: D. de Gea, Evra, Evans, Smalling, Jones, Young Anderson, Nani, Cleverley, Rooney, Welbeck

Tottenham: Friedel, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, Walker, Lennon, Kranjcar, Bale, Van der Vaart, Livermore, Defoe

Manchester will play against Arsenal in the next stage of Premier League, a team that collected one point after two rounds, finishing tied with Newcastle (0-0) and losing at home in front of Liverpool (0-2).

All the facts show us that Alex Ferguson is one of the best in what he’s doing. Managing to keep the players in the same shape like last season and planning a perfect start for the new 2011-2012 season, superb!

Gary Neville, end of a golden career!

Neville was one of the most important players in Manchester United’s Premier League dominance over the last two decades, winning eight titles between 1996 and 2009, two UCL trophies, three FA Cups and two League Cups.

He appeared under national flag at two World Cups and three European Championships, making a hat-trick of appearances in football’s greatest international event and gathering 400 Premier League appearances.
“I have been a Manchester United fan all my life and fulfilled every dream I’ve ever had,” were Gary Neville’s words.
“Obviously I am disappointed that my playing days are at an end, however it comes to us all, and it’s knowing when that time is and for me that time is now.”

Gary started his career on September 1992 Uefa Cup tie against Torpedo Moscow and ended on 1st January 2011 against West Bromwich Albion.

Ferguson: “Gary was the best English right-back of his generation.”
“He is an example to any young professional, hard-working, loyal and intelligent.”

Arsene Wenger: “If you look at his record, he has won absolutely everything and with the number of games he has played, he is without a doubt the best.”
