Manchester United: objectives

Manchester United has another great star of the season this year. Top of the table and with good results in Champions League, it seems that trophies will fall from the sky for them. Though important, Champions League and all the other competitions, Premier League remains the first objective.

Top player and leader among the others at United, Rooney said: “For me, always winning the title was more important than the Champions League trophy. In Premier League we play 38 matches in a long and demanding season, and this is my main concern. Champions League is nice, but I prefer to win Premier League.”

Through the first legs from this season, they managed to gather all the points on the table. Their next game is on Sunday against Chelsea, another team with a great start this season. History of the two clubs let us know that the game will be a fierce one with real football.

Knowing the competition, Wayne Rooney continued: “I think it will be the most interesting fight for the title in recent years and for the podium the battle will be between teams like Manchester United, City and Chelsea. Liverpool has spent heavily on transfers and will take part at least in the fight for the first four places. Arsenal brought also some major players, and Tottenham can have a good season again.“

In any case, for us, the viewers, this could be only from good to better, a real show for our eyes.

Battle between United’s goalkeepers

Money is not everything. Anders Lindegaard has told Sir Alex Ferguson he is ready to give him a real selection headache over who is first-choice goalkeeper at Manchester United.

Following Edwin van der Sar’s retirement, Ferguson has installed 20 million pounds signing David de Gea as his No.1 . However, the Spaniard has not always convinced, while Lindegaard’s for in his first start of the season against Benfica on Wednesday suggested United have genuine competition for the goalkeeper position.

But de Gea remains the first pick for Ferguson on Sunday against Chelsea. Lindegaard, though respectful of that decision, has made it clear he is not happy to settle for the role of understudy:

“I don’t feel I will always be the second choice. I’m never going to complain about competition. That is how it should be. There is room for only one goalkeeper. I accept the manager’s choice every time. ”

The Dane continued: “I am not here just to get my money. I want to be respected as a great football player. If you expect me to say I am happy to be No. 2, that is not how it is. I want to be number one.”

Like in any sport, a little competition won’t do any harm. It could only be a motivational factor for the two players to play every time at their max.

Premier League provides quality

Another stage from UEFA Champions League has ended and the teams from Premier League have had good results if we have in mind their opponents . England was represented with 4 teams in this group stage starting with Chelsea and Arsenal and finishing with Manchester City and last year champions Manchester United.

On Tuesday, first English team to play was Chelsea. Their opponent was from German Bundesliga. Bayern Leverkusen played well, but with the necessity of displaying his value, Fernando Torres had an awesome game, being the man behind the winning goals of David Luiz and Juan Mata, match finished with a 2-0 score.

Right after, Arsenal played on German soil, a hard game regarding their last few weeks, against Borussia Dortmund. Tough with lust for victory, their efforts were in vain, managing just a draw of 1-1. The scorers were Van Persie for Arsenal and Perišić for Dortmund.

Wednesday brought another two games in which were involved English teams. Two teams from the same city, City and United hoped much from their games against Napoli and Benfica. Both teams were dominated in the first half but managed to recover in the second. Both finished in a 1-1 draw, City being saved by Kolarov while United the point was brought by their legend player Giggs, both scoring two beautiful goals.

Nani, the new star player from United

A new leader is rising for Manchester United. It became the most important player in the middle for the Red Devils after Cristiano Ronaldo left and is a leading team player in the field.

The player from the spotlight is Nani, came to Manchester in 2007 from Sporting Lisbon, exactly as Ronaldo did four years ago. After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani has become the Manchester United main midfielder.

“Last year was the best year of my career but this year I hope to overpass my performance. I’m in a good shape physical and mental, I work hard to get performance and I want to win all the trophies with my team.” said Nani.

Manchester’s player had enough after he had been always compared with Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s his time to shine, to prove his qualities.

Nani continued: “For five years, is the same question. It’s all about Ronaldo, I have to be like him. When I do something right, I’m compared with him. I do not want to hear anything about Ronaldo anymore, now I can do whatever I want in 90 minutes.”

The change is here for United. Can they adapt?

Ferguson talks about enemies

Considering that after 3 stages, the teams from the first 6 positions are pretty close to each other, the season 2011-2012 of Premier League is a disputed one. Manchester United is playing close to perfection, trying to demonstrate that they are worthy of the last year title.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, is confident in their chances regarding this season but is fully aware that “the crown” is threatened. In Ferguson’s opinion, the biggest threat in the title race this season is Chelsea. He believes Chelsea will be up there challenging as he has a lot of respect for their experienced squad.

“They have tremendous experience with the likes of Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Petr Cech, John Terry, Alex, Nicolas Anelka, Fernando Torres – there aren’t any young kids in that team. But they don’t have 36 or 37-year-olds like Ryan Giggs. Lampard and Drogba are 33, Anelka is 32 – not dissimilar to Carrick and Rio Ferdinand, and we wouldn’t be saying they are dead and buried, would we? They’ll still be a big threat and we expect them to challenge.” were Ferguson’s words.

The face off will take place later this month and everybody is ready. The foggy situation is in Manchester’s camp because Ferguson said that he doesn’t know too much about Villas-Boas:

“He has a different set-up there to me, but I’m sure he’ll get plenty of advice from others and he’ll do fine. I don’t know much about him.”
