Community Shield fight

Manchester United have vowed to treat next Sunday’s Community Shield match as part of their pre-season campaign, despite the fact they will be playing fierce local rivals Manchester City.

The annual season curtain-raiser will be between the Manchester clubs for the first time since 1956 but United’s assistant-manager, Mike Phelam, feels that this game will be one to boost the teams fitness.

He said: “It is a tasty game because it is the two Manchester clubs coming up against each other”.

This game comes after positive results from each team. Manchester United won a friendly game with Barcelona with 2-1 being helped by Nani and Michael Owen’s determination. On the other side, Balotelli made Macini proud after a 3-0 victory over Inter Milan in a game disputed in Dublin.

For City, the aim is that Sergio Aguero to recover by Sunday so the two teams could defend their chances with all the guns fully loaded.

Mancini said: “Sergio’s task this week is to recover. He played in the Copa America which just finished two weeks ago. The aim is to help him be ready to play a part next Sunday.”

A new Manchester

Manchester United wants to start the new season with a fresher team and prepare a generation that will dominate football not only the next season but for years to come.

For that, Ferguson wants to bring the hottest kid in Brazil when we speak about football. Two of them are Adryan from Flamengo and Lucas from Sao Paulo. Lucas’s agent admitted that United is interested on the player but if they really want him, they have to outrun Bayern Munich in the race.

One of the best known players which Ferguson wants in his team is Ganso, a player that some say is better than Neymar. Along with this, Ganso managed to win Copa Libertadores this year and is a creative midfielder that United needs, a player worthy of replacing Paul Scholes.

All three players are very young. Adryan is 16 years and scored eight times in 14 matches for the U17 national of Brazil. Besides United, Barcelona watched Lucas, already 18 and plays every match for Sao Paulo. He was also placed by FIFA on the “must watch” list for this year. Ganso is 21 years old and was on the “reserve” list of Brazil for the World Cup in 2010.

Battle for places at Manchester United

Despite their wish to show, Rio Ferdinand has warned the young challengers to his central defensive throne that he has no intention of being eased out.

Having arrived on tour late due to their participation in the European Under-21 Championship with England Evans, Chris Smalling and £17m new boy Phil Jones are expected to make their first pre-season appearances on Saturday with the Chicago Fire.

The 32-year-old Rio Ferdinand remembers exactly how he felt at the same stage of his career. He realises the talent is there, but merely stepping aside to let them in is a different proposition completely.

“I remember what I was like when I was young looking up at Slaven Bilic, Marc Rieper, Alvin Martin and Steve Potts at West Ham. Then I was only a kid but I used to sit on the bench and think I should be playing.”
“They are all talented footballers and, I believe, Manchester United players. At some point I am sure they will take over the reins but at the moment I am competitive and I don’t want to be giving up my position to anybody. “

Rooney on fire

Phil Jones wants to play!

The Red Devils are preparing for a new title, they hope. A £17 million defender has now joined the team and met his new team-mates after an extended break. He comes with a hunger after results and he hopes to make an impression with Manchester United.

In any case, Ferguson spoke about Jones harboured reservations when he initially discussed a big money move from Blackburn Rovers, based upon the number of appearances he might make.

“The area we had to work hardest with Phil was to convince him he would get enough football.The first thing you can say is last season Nani played the most games for us, with 48. He was still 11 short of the maximum.

“No-one at United is going to play the maximum number of games. Rio Ferdinand only played 29 and Nemanja Vidic missed some as well. The other thing I explained to him was that we are always trying to look ahead towards the team of the future rather than the team of the present,” said Ferguson.
