Playing for the title:Chelsea vs. Manchester United

A usual derby between two most powerful teams in Premier League has suddenly become a key fixture in the battle for the Barclays Premier League crown. United‘s defeat at Arsenal means they will lose pole position on goal difference if Chelsea win at Old Traffford.

Manchester United though have dropped only two points at home all season and have the cushion of knowing a draw would surely be enough to see them go on and win their 19th title.

The Blues enjoyed a 2-1 victory in the Barclays Premier League meeting at Stamford Bridge in March but United won both legs of the Champions League quarter-final.

Sir Alex Ferguson: “Last Sunday’s result has certainly brought an awareness to us of how important this game is and I think it’s one of the reasons I had to pick the team I did on Wednesday. It’s given us a fresh team for Sunday. It should be a fantastic match and if we win, we should win the league.”

With Premier League title on the table

Arsenal changed the terms in Barclays Premier League title race, after finally finding the character of champions to beat the leaders, Manchester United, with a modest 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

With the last Sunday defeat at Bolton Wanderers, The Gunners saw their own title ambitions extinguished , but with this victory they gave their frustrated fans renewed hope, next season might be different for Arsene Wenger’s young team.

Arsene Wenger: “It’s difficult to fault the attitude and sprit of the team but we lack, maybe, under pressure a little bit of nerve and experience. We’re playing to be as close as we can to the top. We need to show that we have fighting spirit and discipline.”

Sir Alex Ferguson: “After that goal we dominated and I think we deserved something. Obviously, it gives Chelsea a major chance now. But in terms of ability – a game at Old Trafford, the supporters will be ready for it – and so will our players.”

The title is still on then and the game with the higher importance is that between Manchester United and Chelsea this weekend. With only three points behind, The Blues are very close and each mistake could be fatal.

Manchester United facing Everton

Like a word said that England invented football, Premier League is host for this weekend of a few more than interesting battles. One of them is the leader’s fight, Manchester United, against the 7th follower in the tables, Everton.

With just a few stages from this year season, Manchester United is just 6 point ahead of the two most powerful teams searching for glory. Chelsea and Arsenal are both on second place with 54 points so the Red Devils must obtain this victory to keep the 6 points advantage.

In Everton’s case, if we take it after the head to head history of the two teams the situation is pretty foggy. Since the start of the Premier League, Everton have managed just four wins and six draws in 37 contests. Last year’s home win was the first since April 2005.

United facing Newcastle in Premier League

Premier League reserves great matches each time. Today, starting from 19:45, the “Devils” from Manchester United are facing Newcastle in an interesting fight for glory.

Manchester United also won no less than 58 trophies, tied with their great rival, Liverpool. The two are tied in terms of numbers and titles in England, counting 18. Must be mentioned that Sir Alex Ferguson’s team is fighting for two trophies this season, Cup and Champions League!

Man United is six points behind Arsenal with six rounds before the season end. The “Devils” have only two major obstacles on the way to the title with the number 19 –the match of the Emirates with Arsenal over three stages and at home with Chelsea over two rounds!

Manchester’s duel, City vs United

The duel of Manchester’s town between City and United has a long history. So this year, In the FA Cup, they had another chance to settle the things. United, having the biggest number of trophies and a rich history was the favorite against City’s crew.

However, the red-whites have had two great opportunities in the first half: Berbatov, in the first 60 seconds, he missed, remaining only with goalkeeper Hart, and the empty gate. Blues had been lucky once again in the 10th minute, when De Jong puts his leg on Nani’s face, but he wasn’t eliminated.

However the eliminated player was Scholes (36years, 23 trophies, 670 games) after a foul on Zabaleta’s legs. But it was already 1-0 for City: Yaya Toure took advantage of the Carrick’s mistake and scored to obtain the qualifications (52).

After this game, Manchester City smashes United’s dream of winning the triplet. The victory assures for City the qualification in the Cup final, the 130 edition and on the 14th May will have a much more approachable opponent, Bolton or Stoke.
