In football as in business, rumors are getting out really fast, especially when a team has problems. The team I’m talking about is Arsenal. After a horrible defeat they are trying to overpass, some news say that their defender, Thomas Vermaelen, has had a surgery on his left ankle and is expected to be out for at least a month.
If true, Arsenal’s defender, who missed eight months of last season with his right Achilles tendon, is about to be sidelined for the next stage derby against Tottenham on the 2nd of October and Arsenal’s first two Champions League group games.
Though losing Vermaelen for such important games is a blow, the Gunners manager, Arsene Wenger, is pleased that the Belgium centre-half is not out for longer. The rumors were saying that the 25-years-old will be out for two moths but the club denied the info.
“Thomas is expected to be back training with the first team in around a month. He has undergone a minor procedure to remove an inflamed plantaris tendon from his left ankle. This is exactly the same treatment he had on his right ankle in January, nothing to do with his Achilles tendon.” was the official statement of Arsenal board.
