One week to go until the Transfer Window slams firmly shut and this January has been a relatively quiet window by previous standards. However, rumours are rife and all it takes is one move to signal the start of a good old-fashioned transfer merry-go-round’, as deals draw to a close and club owners seek out last minute deals.
La Liga players are often linked to the heavyweight wages of the Premier League so who could be making the short trip from the sunny shores of Spain to good ol’ Blighty?
Aymeric Laporte: Athletic Bilbao to Manchester City
22-year-old Laporte has been courted by City boss Guardiola before and the rumours are he is interested in making another bid for the Bilbao defender in a bid to shore up his ageing defence.Laporte only signed a new four-year contract at Bilbao in the summer but has stated he would study any offers that came in for him.
Athletic have stuck a £55m release clause and hold the cards due to Laporte’s long term contract. However, City have been shaky at the back and £55m could be a sound long-term investment for a talented defender.
Chances of a January Transfer? – Warm
Yannick Carrasco: Atletico Madrid to Chelsea
Rumour has it that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants to trigger Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco’s £86m release clause. The 23-year-old whose Atletico side are now 50/1 to win the Primera Division according to the La Liga Betting, has been on fine form this season having found the back of the net 12 times for club and Country.
However, Chelsea are reportedly prepared to wait until the summer to initiate any offer for the Belgium international, meaning a January transfer looks unlikely.
Chances of a January Transfer? – Cold
Sandro Ramirez: Malaga to Tottenham
Reports suggest the 21-year-old former Barcelona striker has been high on Spurs’s transfer list despite attempting to distance themselves from the Spaniard. A move would make sense with summer signing Vincent Jansson struggling to make an impact at ‘the Lane’.
Spurs reportedly made a bid for Real Madrid’s Isco in the summer but were knocked back. Ramirez would be the ideal solution and could come relatively cheap.
Chances of a January Transfer – Hot (but likely to happen on the last day)
Felipe Caicedo: Espanyol to West Brom
West Brom’s sale of Saido Berahino to Stoke this window has left Baggies boss Tony Pulis light up front.
Espanyol’s Felipe Caicedo is the man Pulis wants to replace him in a deal which is edging ever closer over the line. The 28-year-old has made just 12 appearances for Espanyol this season and would be keen on a move to the midlands.
Manchester City fans may remember Caicedo from his time spent with the club in 2008 and the forward ironically scored his debut goal for City against West Brom. The club want the player and the player wants to go, this is all but a done deal.
