After the loss in the Champions League final against Barcelona, another shock hit Manchester United. Paul Scholes, one of the legendary players of the “devils”, announced its retirement.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to take, but I feel that now is the time for me to stop. The fact that we were part of this team and I helped in the battle for the 19 th title in history is a great privilege for me” Scholes said.
This decision saddened his manager, Alex Ferguson, who promoted Scholes in the middle of the 90s : “It cannot be said anything about Paul, who has not been said before. He was always dedicated to this club and i am delighted that he will join as technical staff next season. Scholes has always been a role model for colleagues and will continue to play this role at Manchester United. “
Paul Scholes (36 years) started at Manchester United in 1994, playing throughout his career at Old Trafford, where he gathered 466 matches and scored 102 goals. For England he evolved in 66 games and scored 14 times. He won in the “Devils” T-shirt 10 championship titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups, two Champions League cups, an Intercontinental Cup and World Club Championship.
